Sales

Sales are all about buying and selling things. When someone wants to buy a product or service, like a new pair of shoes or a haircut, they make a deal with the person or business selling it. This deal is called a sale. During a sale, the buyer and the seller agree on the price and exchange money for the product or service.
Sales can happen in many places, like stores, online shops, or even at a market. The person doing the selling might be called a salesperson, salesclerk, or shop assistant. They help customers choose what they want and complete the sale.
Sometimes, stores have special times when things are sold for lower prices. These are called sales events. Sales are important because they help businesses sell their products and services to people who want them. Laws in many places, like the United States, have special rules to make sure sales are fair and clear for everyone involved.
Definition
When someone or a group wants to buy something, they are called a potential buyer or prospect. Buying and selling are two parts of the same deal. Both the seller and the buyer talk and negotiate before the exchange happens. They need to agree that what they are getting is worth the price.
Sales are a part of marketing, which is the bigger plan for getting people interested in a product or service. Sales teams often work closely with marketing teams. They might use ads, social media like Twitter, Facebook, and blogs, or special offers to attract customers. Sales can happen in person, on the phone, or online.
Selling needs good skills and knowledge to help people decide to buy. Sometimes, teams work together to sell big or complicated products. This can include people from different parts of a company, like finance or research, working as a team to help make the sale.
The sales process
The sales process is a series of steps that helps a salesperson turn a possible customer into a real buyer. First, salespeople look for people who might want to buy something, called prospects. They check if these people can afford the product and can decide to buy it.
Then, the salesperson meets the prospect to talk and learn more about what they need. They show how the product or service can help the prospect. If the prospect has questions or worries, the salesperson answers them. Finally, the salesperson asks the prospect to make the purchase. After the sale, they check in to make sure the customer is happy and may ask for recommendations.

Sales agents can help with selling in different ways. They might work for the buyer, the seller, or both. Some work online to answer questions quickly. Others help manage sales teams and make sure everyone follows the rules.
Inside sales and outside sales are two ways companies sell. Inside sales often happen over the phone, while outside sales involve meeting buyers in person. Some companies use both types of sales.
Sales coaching helps salespeople improve their skills through one-on-one training. This is different from regular training because it continues over time.
Artificial intelligence (AI) is now used in sales to help with tasks like organizing information and understanding what customers might buy. AI can also help write emails and suggest what to say in meetings. However, some people worry that using AI too much might take away the personal touch that is important in selling. Overall, AI is seen as a helper for salespeople, especially in big business deals where human skills are still very important.
Law

In places that follow common law, rules about selling things are usually based on common law and special business rules. In the United States, most areas follow rules from Article 2 of the Uniform Commercial Code, though there are some small differences.
The European Commission suggested a shared set of sales rules in 2011 to make it easier for businesses in different countries to work together. This idea was meant to help with new ways of selling, like online services. But in 2014, they decided not to go ahead with this plan.
