Seattle Seawolves

The Seattle Seawolves are an American professional rugby union team based in the Seattle metropolitan area. They compete in Major League Rugby, a top league for rugby in the United States. The team was founded in 2017 and quickly became one of the strongest teams in the league.

The Seawolves have won two MLR championships, achieving this impressive feat in consecutive years. They reached the league final again in later seasons but faced tough competition. Fans enjoy watching their home games at Starfire Sports in Tukwila, a lively venue just south of Seattle that holds thousands of excited supporters.

History

The Seattle Seawolves started in 2017. They won the first Major League Rugby championship in 2018 and won again in 2019. In 2019, they beat San Diego Legion 26–23 in the final game.

For the 2020 season, they hired a new coach named Kees Lensing. But the season stopped in March because of the COVID-19 pandemic and did not continue.

Stadium

The Seattle Seawolves play their games at the main stadium at Starfire Sports in the suburb of Tukwila. This stadium can hold 4,000 fans. In their first season, the team offered 1,800 season tickets, and they all sold out before the first game. In 2024, the team's president, Tom Barden, said they were talking about moving to the redeveloped Memorial Stadium on the Seattle Center campus. The plans are to rebuild this stadium so it can hold between 6,500 and 8,000 fans.

Broadcasting

The Seattle Seawolves' local games were shown on Root Sports Northwest from 2019 to 2021. Dan Power and Kevin Swiryn were the hosts for the first season. In 2024, games could be seen on Fox, FS1, FS2, Root Sports, and Fox 13+.
