Superman transforms from Clark Kent in a phone booth in Metropolis, Illinois.

A secret identity is a special way for someone to hide who they really are, often used in stories and books. This idea became very popular because of a character named the Scarlet Pimpernel in 1903. Since then, many heroes in books and comics have used secret identities.

The character Superman is commonly depicted using phone booths to change from his secret identity of Clark Kent.

In American comic books, heroes often have two lives. One life is what everyone sees, like a regular person. But when they need to help people, they use a hidden identity. This hidden identity keeps their real name and true self safe. It protects them from getting into trouble and keeps their friends safe too.

Having a secret identity helps heroes do what they need to do without putting themselves or others in danger. It's a clever way to stay safe while still being a hero.
