Veronica Calabrese

Veronica Calabrese (born 7 November 1987 in Mesagne, Brindisi) is an Italian taekwondo athlete. She has won many medals in big competitions around the world. In 2006 and again in 2010, she won bronze medals at the European Taekwondo Championships, which were held in Bonn and St. Petersburg. She also won a silver medal at the 2009 World Taekwondo Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark, finishing just behind China's Hou Yuzhuo.

Veronica is part of the taekwondo team for Centro Sportivo Esercito and is trained by Yoon Soon-Cheul. She is also engaged to Mauro Sarmiento, who has won two Olympic medals.

She worked hard to earn a spot in the women's 57 kg class at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. After doing well in early matches, she came close to winning a bronze medal but lost in the final bronze match to the United States' Diana López.
