WKIM (98.9 FM) is a commercial radio station licensed to Munford, Tennessee, serving the Memphis metropolitan area. Owned by Cumulus Media, it airs a talk format. The station's studios are located on Murray Road at the Memphis Radio Group building in East Memphis. The transmitter site is in Cordova, Tennessee, off Raleigh-Lagrange Road. WKIM has an effective radiated power of 100,000 watts, which is the current maximum allowed for FM stations in the United States.
Programming
On weekdays, WKIM has local shows in the morning and afternoon. The Memphis Morning News is hosted by Ditch and Tim, featuring talks and interviews. In late afternoons, you can hear The Nation of Jake. The rest of the day includes nationally syndicated talk programs such as The Brian Kilmeade Show, The Vince Show with Vince Coglianese, Will Cain Country, Fox Across America with Jimmy Failla, America Tonight with McGraw Milhaven, Red Eye Radio, and America in the Morning with John Trout. Most hours start with updates from Fox News Radio.
WKIM broadcasts Tennessee Titans football games, along with University of Memphis Tigers football, men's basketball, and women's basketball. It also features seasonal talk shows with the Memphis football and men's basketball coaches. Before 2023, WKIM also carried the Memphis Showboats from the United Football League.
History
The station signed on the air in 1948 in Kennett, Missouri, first using the call sign KBOA-FM. In the 1970s, it changed to KTMO and played country music.
In 2001, it moved closer to Memphis and began playing smooth jazz. Over the years, WKIM tried many different types of music, including rhythmic contemporary, female-leaning adult hits, 1990s hits, and classic hip-hop.
Since 2021, WKIM has been a talk radio station called "News/Talk 98.9, The Roar of Memphis". It also broadcasts University of Memphis Tigers games and news from Fox News Radio.
