Aconcagua
Aconcagua is a very tall mountain in the Andes. It is in Mendoza Province, Argentina. Aconcagua is the highest mountain in the Americas and the highest mountain outside of Asia.
People love to visit Aconcagua because it is part of Aconcagua Provincial Park. The mountain has beautiful valleys around it, like the Valle de las Vacas and the Valle de los Horcones Inferior. There are also glaciers, such as the Ventisquero Horcones Inferior.
The name "Aconcagua" might have different meanings. It could mean "comes from the other side" in Mapudungun, or "Sentinel of Stone" in Quechua. We are not sure which meaning is correct.
Many people from all over the world visit Aconcagua. The first person to reach the top was a Swiss guide in 1897. In 2019, a special helicopter landed on the very top for the first time.
Aconcagua is a special and sacred place for the Incas. People found important items there, including the Aconcagua mummy, showing how important the mountain was to them.
