The Age of Discovery

The Age of Discovery was a time when people from Europe sailed to new places around the world. This happened from about the 1400s to the 1600s. It helped connect different parts of the world that had never met before.

Many brave sailors from Portugal and Spain led the way. They found new sea routes and lands far away. For example, Portuguese explorers found a sea route to India, and Spanish explorers like Christopher Columbus reached the Americas.

These journeys opened up new trade routes. People traded goods like spices, gold, and new foods. The Age of Discovery changed how people saw the world. It helped the world become more connected, a process called globalization.

The exchange of plants, animals, and ideas between Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas had big effects. New foods like potatoes and tomatoes changed what people ate. Animals like horses and cattle were brought to new places.

This time was very important for mapping the world. Explorers learned about faraway places and made new maps. The Age of Discovery helped people understand the world better and started many changes that shaped the future.
