What Is Air Pollution?

Air pollution happens when bad things get into the air. These can be gases like ozone and nitrogen oxides, or tiny bits of material such as soot and dust. It can happen both outside and inside buildings.

Where Does It Come From?

Air pollution mainly comes from burning fossil fuels for power and transport. It can also come from wildfires, some factory work, and farming. Inside homes, it can come from burning firewood or agricultural waste for cooking and heat. Other sources include dust storms and volcanic eruptions.

How Can We Help?

Many people are working to make the air cleaner. They use clean cookers, better waste management, electric vehicles, and renewable energy. Countries have made laws, like the US Clean Air Act, to help improve air quality.
