Alto saxophone

This instrument is smaller than some other saxophones, but bigger than a few others. It is very popular and you can hear it in many types of music, like jazz, popular music, and concert bands. Many famous musicians play the alto saxophone, such as Charlie Parker and Cannonball Adderley.

The alto saxophone can play many notes — from low sounds to very high ones. Some special ones can even play extra low notes! It is fun to watch and listen to experts play the highest notes.

Today, many companies make alto saxophones. Some of these companies are Yamaha, Selmer Paris, and Buffet Crampon. You can hear the alto saxophone in solo performances, in bands, and even in groups of four saxophones called saxophone quartets. It is a wonderful instrument enjoyed all around the world.
