Andean Flamingo

The Andean flamingo is a beautiful bird that lives in the high mountains called the Andes in South America. It is one of the smallest kinds of flamingos and has pale pink feathers with brighter pink on its neck and chest. Its legs are yellow, and it has three-toed feet, which makes it special.

These flamingos live in wetlands and salt lakes. In the summer, they stay in higher places, but in the winter, they move to lower wetlands. They like to gather in big groups called colonies with other flamingos, such as the James's flamingo and the Chilean flamingo.

Andean flamingos eat tiny plants and small animals from the water. They use their special bill shape to filter food from shallow, salty water. These birds are important to people, and many groups work to protect them and their homes.
