Angoulême
Angoulême is a lovely small city in the southwestern part of France. It sits on a hill that looks over a bend in the Charente River. Because of its high spot, people call it the "balcony of the southwest." The city has just under 42,000 people, but the larger area around it has about 110,000 people.
Angoulême is famous for its fun festivals, like the Angoulême International Comics Festival and the FFA Angoulême Francophone Film Festival. It is also a place where many animation and video game studios are based. Even famous filmmaker Wes Anderson chose Angoulême to film his movie The French Dispatch.
The city is built on a hill and looks over the Charente River. Angoulême has narrow streets and small squares close to the old city walls. There are important buildings like a castle, town hall, and a cathedral. Some parts of the city were rebuilt in the 1800s.
Angoulême is also known for making paper, a tradition that started in the 1500s. The city has a university and is a busy place for commerce and government. It is a lovely place with many festivals and beautiful sights.
