What Was the Anisian?

The Anisian was an important time long, long ago in Earth's history. It was a part of what we call the Middle Triassic. This time began about 246.7 million years ago and ended about 241.464 million years ago. During the Anisian, Earth was still changing after a big event that happened before this time.

When Did It Happen?

The Anisian came after the Olenekian Age, which was part of the Lower Triassic. After the Anisian, the Ladinian Age began. Scientists love to study the Anisian because it shows how plants and animals changed and grew after a big change in Earth's past.

Where Did People Learn About It?

Two clever scientists named Wilhelm Heinrich Waagen and Carl Diener gave the name Anisian to this time way back in 1895. They named it after a river called the Enns, whose Latin name is Anisus. By looking at special rocks and tiny fossils, scientists can find clues about what the world was like during the Anisian.
