Antananarivo

Antananarivo is the capital city of Madagascar. It is very special because it is the highest capital city on an island in the whole world! The city sits high up, about 1,280 meters above sea level.

Many important buildings are in Antananarivo, like the Presidency, National Assembly, Senate, and the Supreme Court. The city also has universities, hospitals, and many places to work.

Long ago, Antananarivo was home to the Merina people. It was founded around the year 1610 by a king named Andrianjaka. He built a royal palace there. Today, visitors can see old palaces, churches, and the Tsimbazaza Zoo, where they can see interesting animals.

Antananarivo has a warm climate with rainy summers and cooler, dry winters. The city has colorful old houses and many places to explore. It is a busy place with much to discover, making it a wonderful spot in Madagascar.
