Baja California
Baja California is a beautiful state in Mexico. It is the northwesternmost state and makes up the northern half of the Baja California peninsula. This area has many different landscapes, including beaches, forests, and deserts.
The state is bordered by the Pacific Ocean to the west and Sonora and the Gulf of California to the east. To the north, it shares a border with the United States, and to the south lies Baja California Sur.
Baja California has a population of about 3.8 million people. Most live in three big cities: Mexicali, the capital, Ensenada, and Tijuana, the largest city.
The geography of Baja California is very interesting. It has mountain ranges, like the Sierra de Baja California, that change the weather. The northwest has a semi-dry, Mediterranean climate, while the center is more humid with valleys such as Valle de Guadalupe, a major wine area. To the east, the Sonoran Desert covers much of the land, and in the south, the land becomes drier, leading to the Vizcaíno Desert. The state also includes many islands, such as Guadalupe Island, the westernmost point of Mexico.
The area has a rich history. People have lived here for at least 11,000 years. Two main groups were the Cochimí in the south and several groups from the Yuman language family in the north, like the Kiliwa, Paipai, Kumeyaay, Cocopa, and Quechan. Europeans arrived in 1539 when Francisco de Ulloa explored the coast. Later, Jesuits built missions. In 1804, Spain split California into Alta (Upper) and Baja (Lower) California.
Today, Baja California is known for its beautiful beaches, wine country, and diverse wildlife. It is a popular place for tourists and has many opportunities for outdoor activities like hiking, swimming, and exploring nature. The state continues to grow and develop, making it an exciting place to visit or live.
