Banten
Banten is a beautiful province on the western part of the island of Java, in Indonesia. It is the westernmost province on Java and has many interesting places and traditions.
The capital city of Banten is Serang, and the largest city is Tangerang. Banten is close to West Java and the Special Capital Region of Jakarta. To the north, you can find the Java Sea, and to the south, the Indian Ocean lies. The Sunda Strait is to the west, separating Java from Sumatra.
Banten is a place with a rich history. Long ago, it was part of the Sundanese Tarumanagara kingdom. Later, it became the Banten Sultanate after the spread of Islam. Many important traders, including the Dutch East India Company, visited Banten. Today, Banten is its own province, separated from West Java on 17 October 2000.
The land in Banten has many different shapes, from sea level to mountains that are about 2,000 meters high. The weather changes with the seasons, bringing rainy and dry times. Banten is also rich in marine resources, with many islands just off its coast.
People in Banten enjoy many fun activities. You can visit beautiful beaches like Tanjung Lesung Beach in Pandeglang Regency. There are also special places like Ujung Kulon National Park, where you can see the rare Javan rhinoceros. The Great Mosque of Banten is a very important building, and the Old Banten Museum shows many old treasures.
Banten has delicious foods too! One popular dish is rabeg, a special soup made from goat or curry. There are also tasty treats like Sate Bandeng, made from milkfish, and laksa from Tangerang.
