Who Was Barnum Brown?

Barnum Brown was an American scientist who loved studying old bones called fossils. He was born on February 12, 1873, in Carbondale, Kansas. As a young boy, he already enjoyed collecting interesting rocks and pieces of old tools called arrowheads.

Finding Famous Fossils

Brown became famous for finding very important dinosaur bones. One of his biggest discoveries was the first set of bones from a Tyrannosaurus. This helped scientists learn more about these giant dinosaurs that lived long ago. He found fossils in many places, including Montana, Wyoming, and Canada.

A Life Full of Adventures

Brown worked at the American Museum of Natural History and traveled all over the world looking for fossils. He even went to Yangon in Burma, where he found a very special old jaw. Scientists later learned this was from a very old type of primate.

Brown married twice and had a daughter named Frances. He loved sharing his adventures and even inspired a movie about his life. He passed away in 1963, but his discoveries continue to help scientists understand life from millions of years ago.
