The Belgian Revolution

The Belgian Revolution was a time when people in the south of the United Kingdom of the Netherlands wanted to become their own country. This area is now called the Kingdom of Belgium. The people there, called Flemings and Walloons, felt things were unfair under King William I.

After a special show in Brussels, many people began protests. They wanted to make their own rules and be independent. Leaders talked with other countries, and Belgium became its own nation.

A new king, Leopold I, was chosen, and Belgium started as a new country. Today, people celebrate this history every year on Belgian National Day.

The revolution happened because people felt their voices were not heard and wanted fair treatment. Belgium is now a happy and proud country in Europe.
