Biscayne Bay

Biscayne Bay is a beautiful water area along the Atlantic coast of South Florida. It is a special kind of water called a lagoon and also has features of an estuary. The bay stretches for about 35 miles and can be up to 8 miles wide.

The northern part of Biscayne Bay is close to busy cities in the Miami metropolitan area. The southern part is wild and natural, and much of it is inside Biscayne National Park. This park helps protect the beautiful plants and animals that live there.

People have known about Biscayne Bay for a very long time. Long ago, it was filled with fresh water. When ocean levels rose, salt water came in and made it the bay we see today. Ancient people lived near the bay almost 11,000 years ago.

Many parks and places to enjoy the water are around Biscayne Bay. Some famous parks are Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park and Oleta River State Park. There are also marinas where boats can dock, such as at Haulover Park and Dinner Key Marina.

Biscayne Bay is a special place for both nature and people to enjoy. It has calm waters and beautiful sunsets, making it a favorite spot for many visitors and locals alike.
