Bonn

Bonn is a lovely city in Germany. It sits along the Rhine River and has more than 300,000 people.
Bonn played an important role in German history. It was the capital of West Germany from 1949 to 1990 and stayed a key government place until 1999.
The city has a very old history, going back to the 1st century BC. It was first a home for the Ubii people, then became part of the Roman area called Germania Inferior. For many years, Bonn was also the capital of the Electorate of Cologne.
Even after Germany became one country again, Bonn kept many important offices. Today it is called the Federal City of Bonn. It still holds offices for the president, chancellor, and Bundesrat, plus many government departments.
Bonn is also a busy business place. The big companies Deutsche Post DHL and Deutsche Telekom have their main offices here.
Besides politics and business, Bonn is known for its university, Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn. It is also home to many United Nations groups—more than any other German city. Bonn is the birthplace of the famous composer Ludwig van Beethoven and is famous for its happy Rhenish carnival time.
