Borneo Lowland Rain Forests

The Borneo lowland rain forests are a magical place on the big island of Borneo in Southeast Asia. These forests are very wet and full of tall trees and colorful plants. They are part of a bigger group called tropical and subtropical moist broadleaf forests.

These forests are home to many wonderful animals. You can find the world's smallest squirrel, the least pygmy squirrel, and big animals like the Asian elephant. Special animals such as the Bornean orangutan and the Sumatran rhinoceros also live here. There are many birds too, like eight kinds of hornbills and eighteen woodpeckers.

The forests are very important because they help keep the air clean and give home to so many plants and animals. But, some people cut down trees for wood and make space for farms. This can make it hard for animals to live there.

Luckily, some parts of Borneo are protected. These special places, like national parks, help save the forests and the animals that live in them. The Kapuas River and Barito River also help shape the land and give homes to many creatures.
