The Burgess Shale

The Burgess Shale is a very special place where we can find fossils that are very old. These fossils are in the Canadian Rockies in British Columbia, Canada. They help scientists learn about life from a long, long time ago.

These fossils are special because they show parts of animals that usually do not become fossils. This helps us see what the world looked like many millions of years ago.

The Burgess Shale was found by a scientist named Charles Walcott in 1909. He discovered many fossils there. These fossils showed strange and different creatures that lived in very old oceans.

The rocks where these fossils are found are black shale near the town of Field in Yoho National Park. There is also another place with these rocks in Kootenay National Park. These places help us learn about Earth’s past and the many kinds of animals that lived long ago.
