Fun Facts
Carrauntoohil has three main ridges, or arms, that stretch out from it. One ridge leads to Beenkeragh, which is Ireland’s second-highest peak. Another ridge leads to Caher, the third-highest peak. Hikers often use a path called the Devil’s Ladder to climb the mountain. This path is simple but can get busy with many people.
Long ago, ice shaped the mountain and created deep valleys and sharp ridges. One special part of the mountain is called the Eagle’s Nest. It is a bowl-shaped area that holds Ireland’s highest lake, Lough Cummeenoughter. From here, you can see interesting gullies on the mountain.
Many people enjoy walking and climbing on Carrauntoohil. It is a popular spot for mountain walkers and adventurers. Even though most of the mountain is privately owned, people are allowed to visit and enjoy its beauty.
