Centaurus
Centaurus is a bright group of stars in the southern sky. It is one of the largest groups of stars and was written about a long time ago by the astronomer Claudius Ptolemy. Today, it is one of the 88 modern constellations.
In Greek mythology, Centaurus looks like a centaur, which is half human and half horse. Another group of stars named after a centaur is Sagittarius, which is part of the zodiac.
Centaurus has many bright stars. The brightest is Alpha Centauri, the nearest star system to our Solar System. Another bright star is Beta Centauri, and HR 5171 is one of the largest stars ever found. The group also has Omega Centauri, the brightest globular cluster that we can see from Earth.
Centaurus is a big group with many bright stars. It does not include the Milky Way but has two stars that shine very brightly. It also has many interesting objects far away in space.
Centaurus has been known for thousands of years. People long ago saw it as a creature called the Bison-man, which looked like a bull with a human head. Later, ancient Greeks called it a centaur. The name comes from a wise centaur named Chiron, who taught many famous heroes.
