Clownfish
Clownfish are bright, colorful fish that live in warm, tropical waters of the Indo-Pacific. They have beautiful patterns with white bars on red, orange, yellow, brown, or black bodies.
These fish have a special friendship with sea anemones, which look like flowers on the ocean floor. The clownfish live among the anemone's tentacles, where they are safe from bigger fish. In return, the clownfish help the anemone by chasing away fish that might eat anemones and by cleaning them.
Clownfish eat tiny plants and animals floating in the water and live in groups. They are very popular because of their bright colors and friendly behavior. Many people know them from the Disney/Pixar movie Finding Nemo, and they are often kept in aquariums.
Clownfish belong to the damselfish family Pomacentridae. There are 29 known species of clownfish, including the orange clownfish and the maroon clownfish. These fish live in different areas of the ocean, often near different sea anemones.
Clownfish are important to the ocean. They help keep their homes, the sea anemones, healthy. People love to watch them in aquariums, but we need to take care of them so they stay safe in the wild.
