The Colossus of Rhodes

The Colossus of Rhodes was a very tall statue that stood on the beautiful island of Rhodes. People built it to honor the sun god Helios. It was made by a clever artist named Chares of Lindos around the year 280 BC.

This amazing statue was about as tall as a big building—almost as high as the famous Statue of Liberty! It was the tallest statue in the whole ancient world. Imagine seeing something so big right by the water!

Sadly, one day a big earthquake shook the ground, and the statue fell over. Even though some pieces were saved, the people of Rhodes decided not to build it again. Many years later, other people took away what was left of the statue.

Today, the Colossus of Rhodes is remembered as one of the wonderful Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. People still talk about how amazing it was and where it might have stood all those years ago.
