A composer is a person who writes music. They create songs and pieces that tell stories and share feelings with listeners.

Many composers also play instruments or sing. This helps them understand music better and make their creations even more special.

The word "composer" comes from a Latin word meaning "one who puts together." It is often used for people who write Western classical music or make music their main job. Some writers of songs are also called composers, especially in popular music styles.

Composers have worked in many places throughout history. In the past, many worked for the Catholic church or for rich families. Today, composers can teach, give concerts, or sell their music.

Learning to be a composer often starts when someone is young. They might sing in a choir, play in a youth orchestra, or practice instruments like the piano. Older students can study at special schools called conservatories or universities.
