What is a Cuban Sandwich?
A Cuban sandwich is a tasty treat made with special ingredients. It has ham and cheese, just like many sandwiches, but it also includes roast pork, Swiss cheese, pickles, and mustard. All these yummy things are put between slices of soft Cuban bread.
Where Did It Come From?
The Cuban sandwich started a long time ago in small cafes. Many people from Cuba lived in places like Tampa or Key West in Florida. These places were busy with workers from the cigar industry. When Cuban families moved to other cities, they brought their sandwich with them. Today, you can find Cuban sandwiches in many places, like Miami.
Fun Facts
In Tampa, some people like to add salami to their Cuban sandwich. But in Miami, they usually do not. This makes for a friendly contest between the two cities about who makes the best sandwich! In 2012, Tampa even made the Cuban sandwich their special city sandwich.
