Who Was Dodie Smith?

Dodie Smith was a kind writer from England. She loved telling stories for both grown-ups and children. Two of her most famous books are I Capture the Castle and The Hundred and One Dalmatians.

Her Life and Stories

Dodie Smith was born on May 3, 1896, in a pretty house called Stoneycroft in Whitefield, near Bury in Lancashire. She grew up loving stories because of her grandfather, who loved theater, and her uncle, who loved plays.

She moved to London and started acting. Later, she began writing plays and novels. Her book The Hundred and One Dalmatians became very popular with children. It was made into two fun movies by Disney in 1961 and 1996.

Dodie Smith wrote many other books and plays too. Her stories are still read and enjoyed all around the world. She passed away in 1990 in Uttlesford, Essex, England.
