The Beautiful Dolomites

The Dolomites are a stunning mountain range in northeastern Italy. They are part of the Southern Limestone Alps and stretch from the river Adige in the west to the Piave Valley in the east. These colorful mountains sit between the Puster Valley to the north and the Sugana Valley to the south.

The Dolomites lie in several regions, including Veneto, Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol, and Friuli-Venezia Giulia. They cover parts of many provinces such as Belluno, Vicenza, Verona, South Tyrol, Udine, and Pordenone.

These mountains are famous for their pink and purple colors, especially during sunrise and sunset. People have loved exploring the Dolomites for many years. In 2009, the Dolomites were named a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You can visit many special places, like the Dolomiti Bellunesi National Park and the Adamello-Brenta UNESCO Global Geopark. There is also a fun Geological Museum of the Dolomites in Predazzo, located in the Fiemme Valley.

The Dolomites are wonderful for outdoor fun. People love to go skiing in the winter and enjoy mountain climbing, hiking, cycling, and more in the summer. Famous towns and villages in the Dolomites include Cortina d'Ampezzo, Arabba, and Urtijëi. Every July, a big bike race called the Maratona dles Dolomites takes place, going through seven mountain passes.
