The Simple Beauty of Doric Order

The Doric order is one of the oldest and simplest styles of building used by ancient Greek and Roman people. It is famous for its strong, plain look and round tops on the columns. These columns have straight lines carved along them and sit right on the ground without any extra base.

You can see the Doric style in many famous places. The Parthenon in Athens is a great example. It has tall, thick columns with simple round tops. Another fun spot is the Temple of Hephaestus, also in Athens. These buildings show how strong and beautiful the Doric order can be.

People still love this style today. It is used in important buildings around the world. For example, the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin and the Perry's Victory and International Peace Memorial in Put-in-Bay, Ohio both have Doric columns. The Doric order reminds us of simple, strong designs from long ago.
