The Eastern Himalayas

The Eastern Himalayas are a beautiful and special place. They are mountains that stretch from Nepal across Northeast India, Bhutan, the Tibet Autonomous Region to Yunnan in China and northern Myanmar. This area is full of amazing plants and animals, making it very important for nature.

The weather in the Eastern Himalayas is warm and wet, especially in the lower parts. Between June and September, the monsoon of South Asia brings lots of rain. This rain helps forests and rivers grow. Because of this special mix of weather and land, the Eastern Himalayas have many different kinds of life. Scientists call this a biodiversity hotspot, which means it is a very important place for protecting unique plants and animals.

There are over 10,000 types of plants, 240 kinds of mammals, and 750 types of birds in the Eastern Himalayas. Some animals, like the snow leopard and the Asian elephant, live here. The blue poppy is the national flower of Bhutan. It is a special kind of flower that grows in this area.

People in the Eastern Himalayas live close to nature. They grow crops on stepped hillsides and use plants from the forest for food and medicine. The land is also home to many butterflies and birds, making it a wonderful place to explore.
