Emma Darwin

Emma Darwin was born on May 2, 1808. Her birth name was Emma Wedgwood, and she later became known as Emma Darwin after she married.

She married a famous scientist named Charles Darwin on January 29, 1839. Charles Darwin was her first cousin. He studied plants, animals, and how they change over time.

Emma and Charles Darwin had ten children together. Seven of them grew up to be adults. Emma Darwin passed away on October 2, 1896.

Emma was born at the family home of Maer Hall in Maer, Staffordshire. Her family belonged to the Unitarian church. She loved playing the piano and enjoyed outdoor activities like archery.

After Charles Darwin passed away, Emma spent her time between Down House and a big home called The Grove in Cambridge. Today, The Grove is part of Fitzwilliam College.
