The Fennec Fox

The fennec fox is a tiny, special fox that lives in the hot, dry deserts of North Africa. You can find these little foxes from Western Sahara and Mauritania to the Sinai Peninsula. They are the smallest fox in the whole world!

What makes the fennec fox so special are its big ears. These big ears help keep the fox cool in the hot sun and let it hear tiny animals hiding under the ground. The fennec fox has fur that looks like the sand around it, which helps it stay cool during the day and warm at night.

Fennec foxes love to dig big holes in the sand called burrows. These burrows are like their homes and keep them safe and cozy. Sometimes, many fennec fox families share these big burrows. At night, when it is cooler, the fennec fox comes out to look for food like insects, tiny mammals, and birds.
