Food and Agriculture Organization

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is a special group that helps make sure everyone has good food. It is part of the United Nations. The FAO works to stop hunger and help people grow and share food.

The FAO started on October 16, 1945, in Quebec City, Canada. Today, its main office is in Rome, Italy. It has 195 members, including 194 countries and the European Union.

The FAO helps countries work together to improve farming, forestry, fisheries, and the use of land and water resources. It gives advice, runs learning programs, and collects data about food and farming. The leader of the FAO is called the director-general. Right now, it is Qu Dongyu from China.

The FAO has offices all around the world. It has regional offices in Accra, Bangkok, Budapest, Santiago de Chile, and Cairo. It also has many sub-regional and liaison offices in places like Washington, D.C., Yokohama, and Brussels.

The FAO works on many important projects. It helps small farmers grow more food. It also works to keep food safe and fair for everyone. The FAO started a campaign called TeleFood to raise money to fight hunger. It also helps countries prepare for disasters to protect food supplies.
