Francis I of France

Francis I was the King of France from 1515 until 1547. He was born in Cognac, a town in Saintonge, which is now part of France. Francis grew up loving to learn and explore new ideas.

Francis is remembered for loving the arts. He brought great artists to work for him, including Leonardo da Vinci. Leonardo brought the famous Mona Lisa to France. Francis also helped make the French Renaissance beautiful, with new paintings, buildings, and ideas.

He built many wonderful homes, like the Château de Fontainebleau and the Louvre Palace. Francis also sent explorers to find new lands, such as Jacques Cartier, who traveled to the New World.

Francis loved books and learning. He made a big library and let scholars from all over the world visit. He also helped make French language important in his kingdom.
