What Is Frequency?
Frequency is how often something happens in a certain amount of time. It helps us know how quickly events repeat. For example, it can tell us how fast a heart beats or how a guitar string vibrates.
Measuring Frequency
The unit for measuring frequency is called the hertz (hertz), written as Hz. One hertz means one event happens every second. Scientists and engineers use frequency to describe many things, like waves and vibrations.
Fun Facts About Frequency
- Light: The frequency of light decides its color. Lower frequencies look red, while higher frequencies look violet.
- Sound: The frequency of sound decides how high or low the pitch sounds. Humans can usually hear sounds between 20 Hz and 20,000 Hz.
- Electricity: In many parts of the world, household electricity changes direction at a frequency of 50 Hz. In North America, it changes at 60 Hz.
Frequency helps us understand the world around us, from the music we listen to, to the light we see!
