Gasoline

Gasoline is a special kind of fuel that helps cars and many other vehicles go. It is a clear, yellowish liquid that can catch fire easily, so we need to be very careful with it.

What Gasoline Is Used For

Most of us see gasoline every day at gas stations. It is poured into cars to make their engines run. Without gasoline, cars would not move! Gasoline is also used in some small machines like lawnmowers and motorcycles.

How Gasoline Works

Gasoline works by burning inside an engine. When it burns, it creates a lot of energy that pushes the car forward. This is why we need to put gasoline in our cars regularly โ€” to keep them running.

Different Types of Gasoline

Gasoline comes in different strengths, which are measured by something called the octane rating. Higher octane gasoline is stronger and is needed for some special cars. In many places, you will see signs for "regular" gasoline, which has a lower octane rating, and "premium" gasoline, which has a higher octane rating.

Keeping Gasoline Safe

Because gasoline can catch fire easily, it is very important to handle it safely. We should never play with gasoline or try to use it for anything other than putting it in vehicles. Gasoline should always be stored in special containers in safe, cool places.

Gasoline helps our cars and many machines work, but we all need to be careful and respectful when we use it.
