Welcome to Guangzhou!

Guangzhou is a big, busy city in southern China. It is the capital of the Guangdong province and sits near the Pearl River. The city is also called Canton by some people.

Guangzhou is one of the oldest cities in China, with a history of over 2,200 years. It was an important stop on the Silk Road, a famous trade route. Today, Guangzhou is a major transportation hub because of its big port of Guangzhou. The city is part of the crowded Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macau Greater Bay Area, where about 70 million people live.

One of the most famous events in Guangzhou is the Canton Fair. This is a huge trade fair that happens twice a year. It is the oldest and biggest trade fair in China. Guangzhou is also known for hosting big international events, like the 2010 Asian Games and the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup.

Guangzhou has many beautiful places to visit. Some of the top spots include the Canton Tower, the Temple of the Six Banyan Trees, and Yuexiu Park. The city also has lovely parks like Baiyun Mountain and the South China Botanical Garden.

The city is a center for learning, with many universities and research centers. Some well-known schools are Sun Yat-sen University and the South China University of Technology. Guangzhou is a lively place with lots to see and do, making it a fun city to explore!
