Meet the French Grunt

The French grunt, also called Haemulon flavolineatum, is a colorful fish that lives in warm ocean waters. It belongs to the grunt family and is known for its bright yellow stripes and red mouth. This fish is popular with people who love watching sea life because of its pretty colors.

You can find the French grunt in the western Atlantic Ocean. It lives from South Carolina and Bermuda all the way to the southern Gulf of Mexico, including the Florida Keys. It also lives near coral reefs and rocky areas, where it can hide and find food.

French grunts are usually active at night. They search the ocean floor for small plants and animals to eat. Because of their bright colors and friendly looks, they are sometimes seen in large public aquarium displays. These fish help keep the balance of their ocean home by eating tiny plants and animals.
