Hampton’s story began long ago at a place called Old Point Comfort. In 1607, English explorers led by Christopher Newport landed here and started the first English settlement in America, called Jamestown. Hampton grew from a small town into a busy city over many years. After the American Civil War, important schools like Hampton University were created to help everyone learn.
