Hans Christian Ørsted

Hans Christian Ørsted was a clever scientist from Denmark. He loved to learn about the world around him when he was a boy. He grew up in a town called Rudkøbing and helped his father, who had a shop with many interesting things.

Ørsted discovered something very exciting! He found out that electric currents can make magnetic fields. This important idea is called Oersted's law. His discovery helped other scientists and changed how we use electricity today.

Ørsted also made the first piece of aluminium. This soft, shiny metal is used in many things we see every day, like foil and cars. He was friends with a famous writer named Hans Christian Andersen, who wrote wonderful stories.

People remember Ørsted for his smart work. A unit of measurement for magnetism is named after him, the oersted. Even today, his name lives on in parks, schools, and even a satellite!
