Hattusa was a very important city a long time ago. It was the capital of the Hittite Empire. Today, you can visit the old ruins of Hattusa near the town of Boğazkale in Turkey. It is close to the Kızılırmak River.
People first lived in Hattusa a very long time before the Hittites. Many visitors and explorers came to see the city over the years. In 1986, Hattusa was chosen as a special place by UNESCO, meaning many people think it is very important.
Hattusa had big walls to protect the city. There were also special gates with carvings of lions and sphinxes. Inside the city, there were important buildings and temples. People think about 10,000 people lived there when it was busy. Today, visitors can see old stone walls and learn about life in ancient times.
Near Hattusa, there is a place called Yazılıkaya with beautiful carvings of gods. Many old pieces of writing called tablets were found here, telling stories of old kings and agreements. These tablets help us learn about life in the past.
