The Hudson River
The Hudson River is a long and beautiful river in New York. It starts in the Adirondack Mountains at a small lake called Henderson Lake and flows all the way to New York Bay, where it meets the Atlantic Ocean. Along its path, it forms the border between New York and New Jersey.
Many Indigenous groups, like the Munsee, Lenape, Mohawk, and Haudenosaunee, lived near the river long ago. It was later named after Henry Hudson, an explorer who sailed down the river in 1609.
The Hudson River has inspired many artists and writers. It also helped people travel and trade with canals like the Erie Canal. Today, the river is cleaner, and people can even see fish like sturgeon in its waters again.
