What Are Human Rights?

Human rights are important ideas about how everyone should be treated. They say that every person deserves respect and fairness just because they are a person. This means everyone should be safe, have the freedom to speak, and go to school.

Why Do We Have Human Rights?

The idea of human rights became very important after a sad time in history called World War II. In 1948, many countries agreed on a special paper called the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This paper lists rights that all people should have, no matter where they live.

One of the first papers to talk about rights was the Magna Carta. It was made a long time ago and said that even kings must follow the law. This helped people think about rights everyone should have.

Who Helps Protect Human Rights?

Today, many groups work to protect human rights. The United Nations is one of these groups. It helps countries follow the rules of human rights and supports people who are treated unfairly. The United Nations has a special office just for human rights.

There are also other groups and courts that help make sure people’s rights are respected all around the world. They talk to leaders and give advice on how to treat people fairly.

Human rights are important because they help make the world a better place for everyone. They remind us to be kind, fair, and respectful to all people, no matter who they are.
