Illyria
Illyria was an ancient land in the western part of the Balkan Peninsula. People called the Illyrians lived there a very long time ago. Today, this area is part of countries like Albania and Montenegro.
The name Illyria came from these people. They had their own special way of life and spoke their own language. Long ago, the land was smaller, but later it grew to include more places near the Adriatic Sea.
Many years later, the powerful Romans came to Illyria. They turned parts of it into places they ruled. Even after that, people still remembered the name Illyria.
Illyria is also remembered because a famous writer, William Shakespeare, used a made-up version of it in his play called Twelfth Night. This shows how stories about old places can live on in new ways.
