What is Isobutane?

Isobutane is a special kind of gas that is made from tiny parts called atoms. It is also known by other names like i-butane or 2-methylpropane. Even though it is a gas, it is very useful for making many things we use every day.

Where Do We Use Isobutane?

Isobutane is used in factories to help make better fuels for cars. It can also be found in some spray cans that push out products like paint or deodorant. When we go camping, some small stoves use isobutane as fuel to keep us warm.

Keeping Things Cool

Isobutane is also used to keep food cold in refrigerators. It started being used in 1993 thanks to a project by Greenpeace. This gas is good for the Earth because it does not hurt the ozone layer like some older materials did. However, it is important to use it only in the right kinds of refrigerators and air conditioners.
