Jacksonville is the biggest city in the state of Florida. It sits along the St. Johns River on the Atlantic coast in the northeastern part of the state. People often call it "Jax" for short. It is also one of the biggest cities in the United States.

The area where Jacksonville is today has been home to people for thousands of years. It was originally home to the Timucua people. Later, Spanish, French, and British explorers came there. The city was named after Andrew Jackson, the seventh president of the United States.
