The John Hancock Center
The John Hancock Center is a very tall building in Chicago, Illinois. It stands at 1,128 feet tall with 100 stories. When it was finished in 1968, it was the second-tallest building in the world, just shorter than the Empire State Building in New York City.
This amazing building was designed by architect Bruce Graham and engineer Fazlur Rahman Khan. Inside, there are offices, restaurants, and about 700 homes, making it a special place to live and visit.
One of the most popular spots is the observatory called 360 Chicago. It offers great views of Chicago and Lake Michigan. Visitors can see up to four states from up there. There is also a special moving platform called TILT that lets guests lean over the edge of the skyscraper and enjoy the view.
On the 44th floor, there is a sky lobby with the highest indoor swimming pool in the United States. It is a fun place for people who live in the building to relax and enjoy the tall ceilings.
The John Hancock Center is part of the Magnificent Mile district and has bright lights on top that change colors for special events. It is a wonderful example of modern architecture and a landmark that many people love to visit.
