Late Cretaceous

A stunning view of Earth from space, showing our planet as a beautiful blue marble floating in the vastness of space.

The Late Cretaceous was a special time long ago, about 100.5–66 million years before today. It was part of the bigger Cretaceous Period, a time when Earth looked very different from now.

During this time, the world was warmer but slowly getting cooler. Big chalk cliffs formed, like the famous white cliffs in England. These cliffs are made from a type of rock called limestone.

Many amazing animals lived during the Late Cretaceous. In places like North America and Asia, you could find different kinds of dinosaurs, like plant-eating hadrosaurs and armored ankylosaurs. Birds were also flying around, and some even lived in the oceans.

Plants changed too. By the end of this time, flowering plants like magnolias and roses started to grow more everywhere. The Late Cretaceous helps us learn about Earth’s past and how life has changed over millions of years.
