Leuven is a lovely city in Belgium. It is the biggest city in Flemish Brabant and lies in the Flemish Region. Leuven is only a short distance from Brussels, the capital of Belgium.
People have lived in Leuven for a very long time. It was first mentioned in the year 891. One of the most important things about Leuven is that it has a very old university. The university started in 1425, which makes it one of the oldest in Europe. Today, the university is called KU Leuven and it is very big and famous.
Leuven is also well-known for its beer. One of the world’s biggest beer companies, Anheuser-Busch InBev, began here. You can visit many places in Leuven where you can learn about beer and taste different kinds.
The city has many lovely old buildings and squares. One famous building is the Town Hall, which has beautiful statues on the outside. There is also a big church called Saint Peter's Church. In the city centre, you will find the Oude Markt, or Old Market square, which is always full of people.
Leuven is easy to get around because many people ride bicycles. There are also buses and trains to help visitors travel. The train station is big and has trains going to many places, like Brussels Airport.
Every year, Leuven hosts fun events, like a rock music festival called Marktrock. In 2030, Leuven will be one of Europe’s Capital of Culture cities. This means there will be many special art shows and events for everyone to enjoy.
